This is my interpretation of Mack Megaton, from a novel I just finished called Automatic Detective by A. Lee Martinez
I’m not great at drawing robots.
This was one of the most fun reads I’ve had in a long while. Basically all you need to know is that a badass robot fights all kinds of machines and super powered mutant freaks. There are flying car chases, explosions, talking gorillas, and each of the many action sequences is crazier than the last. I could easily imagine this as a cartoon, I immediately heard Kevin Michael Richardson (Killowog, Panthro, Martian Manhunter, Bulkhead, etc) in my head doing this robot’s voice. The world kind of reminds me of somewhere in between Samurai Jack and Futurama, in that it’s set in the far future where robots and mutants are a relatively normal part of society, and the science is far-fetched and fun. It also has a very pulp/noir/hard-boiled/retro feel to it, that makes it feel like a 1940’s version of the future. I feel like every book I read wants to make me cry at some point, and I don’t mind drama, but it was refreshing to read something that was an alternative to that. This was a nice break from all the heavy serious/depressing themes that seem to always accompany books written for adults/young adults.
That is all. I read a lot of books, maybe I’ll draw/talk about them more often. Would you find that interesting?
