"Fake" Nerd Girls
So, everyone is weighing on this topic after Tony Harris revealed himself to be a huge sexist douchebag who expresses himself like a 14yr old and I kinda just chewed someone out in my inbox for them suggesting that there are some examples of girls who are actually fake and exploit nerdom and they should be pointed out so the “real” nerd girls know that posts about “fake” nerd girls aren’t about them.
My opinion, the only thing pointing out allegedly fake nerds does is bolster the stances of assholes like Tony Harris. Females don’t need another female to vilify, they need assholes to stop scrutinizing their goddam identities point blank period. Luckily the person I was having this discussion with was able to see the light because my skills of persuasion are mad tight.
The main point I want to make though about all this, to people who complain about “fake” nerd girls is… why give a shit? At all? Say there is a woman that does exploit nerd culture for personal gain but she isn’t actually into nerd culture herself, even if that woman allegedly exists… like, okay, so the fuck what? Who is the victim of that crime? Why would any rational adult care about that? Tony Harris whined about women who according to him aren’t even that hot who dress up as characters they know nothing about just so they can show some skin and get attention and would never give nerds the time a day and have never really read comics… my question to him would by why is that a thing you find it worth your time to care about even if it were true? So what if someone doesn’t read comics but likes dressing up at cons? Seriously, so the fuck what?
On that note, let’s stop judging people for allegedly wanting attention. Why is that even a bad thing. Wanting attention is a normal human thing. Tony Harris can sit in a booth at an event and have people line up to talk to him and sign things and draw for them… that’s not also wanting attention? Why is it okay for him to feel worthy of attention, but a woman who put time and effort into creating a costume (and the craftsmanship on a lot of these outfits is super impressive) is a whore if they want people to appreciate what they’ve created? Even if they just wanted someone to appreciate their bodies, so what? What’s wrong with that? I’ve never ever seen people refer to bodybuilders who get up on stage in speedos and flex every muscle they have an attention whore. Whyyyyyyy do people feel like how women present themselves or what words they identify themselves with or what motivates them, is something they need to be outraged with if it doesn’t meet their arbitrary standards?
If someone isn’t hurting anybody shut the fuck up with your petty judgements. It’s not your place to police how people (women in particular it seems) express themselves or what their motives are.
There, that’s how I feel about the topic. Sorry for all the fucks and shits and whatever other swears I used.
