Daily Confession:

thestray:

I don’t see what’s so amazing about the Social Network.

This was one of the first Daily Confessions I posted, the first handful of these I did there was absolutely no elaboration. Just a one sentence opinion, which doesn’t really tell you anything about me or the way I think. Here’s a redo:

I don’t see what’s so amazing about the Social Network. It has some good performances by the cast, and I particularly like the score, I’ll give it that, but as far as stories go I don’t understand why I’m supposed to give a shit about any of this. Some rich white kids have a disagreement over the ownership of a website, lawsuits ensue, and it ends with all of them being way more rich? It’s like the ultimate #WhitePeopleProblems movie. I mean, I don’t think it was horrible to watch, it definitely had its moments, but I don’t know why everybody was so blown away. It was #1 of every critics top 10 list, and won every other award including best picture, and I really don’t get why. To me it’s just an okay movie, there was just not a strong enough conflict in the movie for me to be all that deeply invested in it, I don’t care that all these rich young dudes now resent each other. Without there being high stakes none of what’s happening is too compelling to me.

But what do I know, my favorite films of 2010 all contained either martial arts, gratuitous explosions, or dick jokes. MacGruber had all three, I think I’ll watch that again tonight. MacGruberrrrrrrrr! (explosion/panther growl)
